The Head of Product is a critical leadership role, responsible for creating, driving and championing the long-term vision for a strategic product domain. Relentlessly focused on delivering business value, this role combines commercial understanding, product leadership and technology expertise to shape the future of retail technology at scale.
As Head of Product for Propositions, you will lead a portfolio of products that enable Sainsbury's commercial strategy to be translated into compelling, customer-focused experiences across our store estate.
Working closely with Commercial teams and collaborating extensively with Retail, Supply Chain and Property, you will own the technology capabilities that determine how store space is planned, range and assortment for Food and General Merchandising as well as our loved Tu Clothing proposition. These strategy technologies must maximise both customer satisfaction and commercial performance.
Space, Range & Display
Leading the technology capabilities that support how products are ranged, allocated and presented across our stores.
This includes:
- Space planning and optimisation- macro and micro space
- Range and assortment planning across Food and General Merchandise
- Planogram management and execution
- Display and fixture optimisation
These capabilities directly influence how millions of customers experience our stores every week and help ensure that commercial decisions can be executed effectively and consistently across the estate.
Clothing
Leading the technology products that underpin our Clothing proposition and support the end-to-end lifecycle of planning, ranging and executing Clothing offers.
This may include:
- Clothing range and assortment planning
- Seasonal proposition management
- Product and category planning
- Space and display optimisation for Clothing
- Price & Promotions, commercial decision support
You will work closely with Clothing, Commercial and Retail teams to ensure technology enables improved planning, execution and customer outcomes across one of Sainsbury's most strategically important categories.

Product Leadership
- Define and communicate a compelling vision, strategy and roadmap for the Propositions product domain.
- Bring together multiple product strategies into a coherent and compelling long-term vision.
- Own prioritisation across the product family, balancing strategic transformation, operational excellence and business value.
- Define measurable outcomes and product success metrics that demonstrate value delivery.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders across Commercial, Retail, Property, Supply Chain and Technology.
- Represent the domain in senior governance forums and influence investment decisions.
People Leadership
- Lead, coach and develop a team of Product Managers and Senior Product Managers.
- Create a high-performing, high-trust culture focused on customer and business outcomes.
- Develop product capability and craft excellence within the team.
- Foster a culture of learning, experimentation and continuous improvement.

- Lead resolution and prioritisation of live product incidents and operational issues where required.
What I need to know
- Strong understanding of product management principles and modern product operating models.
- Experience leading enterprise-scale technology products and product teams.
- Experience with assortment, range management, space planning, planogram or category technologies.
- Knowledge of Food, Clothing or General Merchandise retail operations would be advantageous.
- Understanding of Agile delivery methodologies and modern engineering practices.
- Experience working within large-scale transformation programmes.
