At Argos, we’re a digital-led UK retailer that keeps pushing boundaries to meet every generation with what they want, how and when they want it. As a market leader in general merchandise, serving millions of customers through our website, app, same-day delivery and Click & Collect services, we offer real opportunities to learn, grow and shape your career. With roles spanning Commercial, Buying, Merchandising, Design and Supply Chain, through to Digital, Operations, Customer Experience, Marketing, and People and Transformation , you will work with brilliant colleagues and directly shape how we serve our customers every day. From enabling inspiring choice across our owned brands, including Habitat, Chad Valley and Bush, alongside the world’s biggest brands like Apple, Lego, Xbox and Samsung, to making shopping effortlessly convenient, championing trusted value and accelerating our strategy - Argos is an exciting place to build your future.

At Argos, we’re committed to delivering products that customers can trust. When things don’t go to plan, how we respond matters just as much as the product itself. That’s where our Technical & Ethical team plays a key role, using insight from returns and complaints to continually improve quality and customer experience.

This Returns Investigation & Resolution Technologist role sits right at the centre of that. You’ll take ownership of investigating serious product complaints, uncovering root causes and driving actions that improve product performance and reduce returns. Your work will help shape product quality, influence supplier standards and enhance the experience our customers have every day.

Combining strong analytical thinking with a hands-on, problem-solving approach, you’ll stay close to the detail, using data and insight to identify trends while working collaboratively across the business to turn findings into meaningful change.

We’re looking for someone who brings a practical, hands-on approach to product investigation, ideally with a background in electrical or technical products.

What You’ll Do

Take a hands-on approach to investigating product faults, including disassembly and inspection where required, to better understand root causes and support technical findings.

Acting as the focal point for serious product complaints and returns analysis across general merchandise, you’ll ensure issues are investigated thoroughly and resolved within agreed timescales.

You’ll analyse returns data, customer feedback and complaints to identify trends and recurring issues, using this insight to prioritise where to focus.

Working closely with Product Technologists and wider teams, you’ll help translate findings into clear actions that support improvements in product standards and manufacturing processes.

You’ll create clear, structured action plans and reports, outlining root causes and recommending corrective actions to improve product quality and reduce future issues.

You’ll play a key role in influencing stock decisions and ensuring corrective actions are implemented effectively and at pace.

You’ll also support supplier visits and inspections where needed, working collaboratively to deliver the right outcomes.

Who You Are

You’re a detail-focused problem solver who enjoys investigating issues and getting to the root cause, bringing experience of hands-on product fault investigation through methods such as disassembly or basic testing. Ideally, you’ll have a background in electrical, engineering or technical products.

You’re comfortable communicating with a wide range of stakeholders, able to present findings clearly and influence next steps.

You bring a structured approach to your work, with strong organisation and attention to detail, ensuring investigations are documented thoroughly and actions are followed through.

Collaborative and proactive, you work closely with technical, operational and supplier teams to drive improvements and deliver better outcomes.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience in a technical role within a retailer, supplier or service provider environment
  • Experience in product fault investigation using hands-on disassembly and electrical testing
  • Strong reporting skills, with the ability to present findings and recommend actions
  • Confident communication skills, with the ability to engage a range of stakeholders
  • Strong analytical capability and confidence working with data
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities
  • Willingness to travel within the UK to warehouses and suppliers where required
