About the team

You’ll join our Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) function at the heart of Sainsbury’s Group, where we play a critical role in shaping strategic decisions and driving long-term value. The team partners closely with senior leaders across Finance and the wider business, providing insight that supports balanced investment decisions and the delivery of robust cashflows. With a strong focus on collaboration, curiosity and continuous improvement, FP&A is central to how we deliver sustainable performance for the business.

More about the role

This role sits within FP&A with a specific focus on working capital and cash conversion, supporting our strategic ambition to deliver cashflows in excess of £1.6bn. You will play a key role in strengthening how we report, analyse and communicate working capital performance, ensuring senior leaders have clear insight into cashflow outturn, key drivers of movement, and trends versus expectation and prior years.

Leading a team of three analysts, you will oversee the production of high-quality management reporting and periodic review packs, providing clear storytelling and actionable insight. You’ll support the coordination, validation and modelling of long-term strategic initiatives, using tools such as Alteryx and Power BI to enhance reporting and analysis. Alongside core planning responsibilities, including Latest View, Corporate Plan and Budget processes for working capital, you’ll build an external perspective to help inform decision-making and influence the business. The role also provides exposure to senior leadership, including stepping up to cover the Head of Finance where required.

More about you

You’ll be a qualified finance professional with demonstrable experience working with complex data and translating it into meaningful insight. You’re comfortable operating beyond traditional finance boundaries, showing curiosity about the wider business and a strong understanding of the commercial drivers that impact cash and working capital performance.

You’ll bring the confidence to engage, challenge and influence senior stakeholders with varying levels of financial acumen, balancing detail with clarity. As a people leader, you’ll support the development and upskilling of your team and contribute to building capability across the wider finance community. You’re self-motivated, able to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment, and bring a proven desire to drive change and improvement.

Essential criteria

  • Recognised accounting qualification (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent)
  • Proven experience analysing and reporting complex financial data, including cashflow or working capital metrics, to provide insight
  • Demonstrable experience communicating, influencing and constructively challenging senior stakeholders on financial performance
  • Evidenced experience leading, managing or developing analysts to deliver high‑quality reporting and insight
  • Demonstrable finance experience leading or delivering change within a Retail commercial environment
