What you'll do
As the Finance Manager - Supplier Planning, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and developing the approach to Branded and Own Label Supplier Planning within the Commercial Buying areas. You will work closely with the Commercial Finance team to provide analytical and decision-making support during commercial negotiations, driving insight and analytical support on Supplier Planning activity. Your responsibilities will include scenario modelling, analysing negotiation outcomes, ensuring compliance with financial accounting standards, and delivering business outcomes while maintaining a strong controls environment. Success in this role will involve developing an in-depth understanding of commercial levers, partnering with the business to drive improved financial outcomes, and sharing best practises to enhance our understanding of the economics of our supply base. Your ability to work autonomously, prioritise tasks, and effectively communicate with senior stakeholders will be essential for success in this dynamic and challenging role.
Who you are
You are a qualified accountant with a strong strategic mindset and a track record of driving financial success through analytical insights and decision-making support. Your ability to partner with cross-functional teams, including Buying, Supply Chain, and Finance, enables you to maximise sales, improve margins, and drive cash flow by leveraging your expertise in commercial margin levers and supplier business models. With a proactive and self-motivated approach, you thrive in a fast-paced retail environment, ensuring compliance with financial standards while fostering a collaborative and values-driven culture that drives business growth and success.
Essential Criteria
- Qualified accountant with a recognised professional certification — must hold CIMA, ACCA, or ACA
- Demonstrable commercial finance experience in a large business environment of a comparable size to Sainsbury’s, with applied knowledge of commercial margin levers and supplier business models
- Proven ability to build effective cross-functional relationships, particularly with Buying, Supply Chain, Category Planning, and Finance teams
- Ability to communicate and influence senior stakeholders, evidenced by strong partnering and networking capabilities
